Multigenerational Entrepreneur Farmers and Pluriactivity in Farm-Stay Agritourism
Keywords:
Entrepreneur Farmers, Multigenerational, Pluriactivity, AgritourismAbstract
This article aims to understand the phenomenon of farm-stay agritourism through production dynamics in the agricultural household. To describe the diversity of entrepreneurial farmers, including young generation farmers, newcomer farmers, and elderly farmers, the author emphasizes the importance of inheriting capital in production between generations at family and community levels. In this article, farm-stay agritourism is an example of economic pluriactivity that continues through farming. The participation of multigenerational entrepreneur farmer networks is required to benefit the distribution of opportunities and resources in tourism. This article also reviews the mechanism of network-institution-based agricultural society which supports farmers’ production and cooperation for pluriactive lifestyle such as farm-stay agritourism in Japan. Based on the comparative study, this article asserts that each local community should have the rights to manage farm-stay agritourism areas and activities in Thailand. The state and capital should create a mechanism of integration that ensures long-term social-economic stability for households and farmer communities.
