Application of Religious Tenets for Daily Living among Thai Youths

Abstract

The objectives of this study are to explore application of religious tenets for daily living among Thai youths and to investigate association of demographic, socio-economic and environmental characteristics with application of religious tenets for daily living among Thai youths. The 2008 Survey on Conditions of Society, Culture and Mental Health, conducted by the National Statistical Office co-operating with Department of Mental Health, Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol Univeristy and Thai Health Promotion Foundation, was employed. Samples were Thai persons aged 15-24 years old who had life or working problems within last year. This study contains 2,306 cases in total. Frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and chi-square test were utilized for data analysis. The results indicate that 47.5% of the sample applied religious tenets for daily living sometimes. 26.6% rarely applied tenets, while 25.9% oftentimes did so. Moreover, sex, values in creative behaviors, religious strictness, education attendance, religion, region and parents’ religious strictness had statistically significant relationship with youths’ application of religious tenets for daily living.
