บทคัดย่อ

งานวิจัยนี้มีจุดประสงค์ 2 ประการ คือเพื่ออธิบายลักษณะของครอบครัวชนชั้นกลางที่เปลี่ยนแปลงทั้งในด้านกิจกรรมและความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างสมาชิกในครอบครัวในบ้านและที่พักอาศัย และเพื่ออธิบายพลวัตของอารมณ์ ความรู้สึกนึกคิดของครอบครัวชนชั้นกลางด้านความงาม ผ่านปฏิบัติการด้านงานมัณฑนศิลป์และงานตกแต่งบ้าน และปฏิสัมพันธ์ของเรือนร่างกับพื้นที่อยู่อาศัยในสังคมไทย งานวิจัยนี้เป็นงานวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพใช้วิธีการทางประวัติศาสตร์โดยศึกษาผ่านการใช้เอกสารชั้นต้น และแนวความคิดเรื่องระบอบอารมณ์ความรู้สึกมาปรับใช้เพื่อวิเคราะห์ ผลการศึกษาพบว่า พลวัตของที่อยู่อาศัยของชนชั้นกลางที่มีความเปลี่ยนแปลงในทศวรรษ 2520-2540 ลักษณะของบ้านของพวกเขาเปลี่ยนแปลงจากบริบททางสังคม เศรษฐกิจและการเมืองได้ส่งผลต่อปฏิบัติการด้านงานมัณฑนศิลป์และงานตกแต่งบ้านเป็นอย่างยิ่ง โดยเฉพาะการขยายตัวของยุคทองทางเศรษฐกิจในทศวรรษ 2530 ที่ส่งผลต่อความงาม ในที่นี้ความงามคือ การให้คุณค่าทางสุนทรียศาสตร์ที่แสดงออกมาอย่างเป็นรูปธรรมผ่านความหลากหลายของบ้านและการตกแต่ง อันถือว่าเป็นพื้นที่สำคัญของการบริโภคของครอบครัวชนชั้นกลาง รูปแบบความงามอาจแบ่งได้เป็นรูปแบบคนรวยใหม่, อนุรักษ์นิยม และหัวก้าวหน้า ไม่เพียงเท่านั้น ความงามของชนชั้นกลางก็มิได้มีเพียงหนึ่งเดียว หากสัมพันธ์กับตลาดบริโภคที่หลากหลายและการให้คุณค่าความงามและความรู้สึกนึกคิดที่แตกต่างกันไป
