บทคัดย่อ
วันที่ 29 ตุลาคม พ.ศ.2560 คือวันถวายพระเพลิงพระบรมศพพระบาทสมเด็จพระปรมินทรมหาภูมิพลอดุลยเดช กษัตริย์รัชกาลที่ 9 แห่งราชวงศ์จักรี ในวันนั้น บริษัทชั้นนำของภาคธุรกิจไทยได้ร่วมใจกันปิดกิจการของตนเป็นการชั่วคราว เพื่อถวายความอาลัยแด่พระองค์ บทความชิ้นนี้ศึกษาปรากฏการณ์ดังกล่าวและเสนอว่า นี่คือปรากฏการณ์ที่ดูจะขัดแย้งกับหลักการพื้นฐานของระบบทุนนิยม เนื่องจากมันได้นำไปสู่การหยุดชะงักของการเคลื่อนไหวของทุน การชะลอการสะสมทุนการลดมูลค่าของสินค้า และการสูญเสียรายได้ของบริษัทเหล่านั้น บทความยังเสนออีกว่า ปรากฏการณ์ดังกล่าวเป็นเรื่องที่เข้าใจได้ หากเราพิจารณาไปที่ความสัมพันธ์อันแนบแน่นและยาวนานระหว่าง ทุน นายทุน และสถาบันพระมหากษัตริย์ และบทบาทของพระราชวังในการสนับสนุนและอุปถัมภ์การพัฒนาระบบทุนนิยมในราชอาญาจักรไทย หากมองในแง่นี้ แม้ว่าการปิดกิจการของภาคธุรกิจในวันถวายพระเพลิงจะนำมาสู่ผลเสียทางเศรษฐกิจต่อนายทุนชั้นนำของประเทศ การกระทำดังกล่าวก็เป็นไปในลักษณะชั่วคราวแต่เพียงเท่านั้น แท้จริงแล้ว มันเป็นการแสดงออกเชิงสัญลักษณ์ที่ชี้ให้เห็นถึงความแน่นแฟ้น ความเป็นอันหนึ่งอันเดียวกัน และความต่อเนื่องในความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างสถาบันกษัตริย์กับชนชั้นนายทุน ซึ่งเป็นความสัมพันธ์ที่จะเอื้อประโยชน์ให้กับคนกลุ่มหลังในระยะยาว
