จากพื้นที่การค้าสู่พื้นที่แห่งการคิด: ปฏิบัติการของร้านหนังสืออิสระในสังคมไทย

บทคัดย่อ

บทความนี้ศึกษาบทบาทและกลยุทธ์การอยู่รอดของร้านหนังสืออิสระในสังคมท่ามกลางสถานการณ์ที่ร้านหนังสือแบบมีหน้าร้านลดลงจาก 2,483 ร้าน เหลือเพียงประมาณ 800 ร้าน ในช่วงกว่าทศวรรษที่ผ่านมา (ประมาณ พ.ศ. 2557–2565) แม้ว่าคนไทยจะอ่านหนังสือมากขึ้นและตลาดหนังสือมีมูลค่าคาดการณ์กว่า 20,000 ล้านบาท (ปี 2568) การศึกษานี้ใช้กรอบแนวคิด 4 ประการ ได้แก่ การเป็นพื้นที่ต่อรองของความคิด พื้นที่ทางสังคมและวัฒนธรรม การค้าที่เชื่อมโยงกับสังคม และกลยุทธ์การอยู่รอดในบริบทท้องถิ่น ผ่านกรณีศึกษาร้านหนังสืออิสระ 4 แห่ง คือ ร้านเล่า (เชียงใหม่) ร้าน House of Commons (กรุงเทพฯ) ร้านหนังสือเล็ก ๆ (เชียงใหม่) และร้านฟิลาเดลเฟีย (อุบลราชธานี) ผลการศึกษาพบว่า ร้านหนังสืออิสระไม่ได้เป็นเพียงสถานที่ซื้อขายหนังสือ แต่เป็นพื้นที่แห่งการเรียนรู้ที่มีบทบาทสำคัญในฐานะพื้นที่ปลอดภัยสำหรับการพัฒนาจิตสำนึกวิพากษ์ พื้นที่ต่อต้านที่ท้าทายตรรกะของทุนนิยม และโรงเรียนนอกระบบที่หล่อหลอมพลเมืองที่มีความคิดวิเคราะห์ อย่างไรก็ตาม ร้านเหล่านี้เผชิญความท้าทายจากโครงสร้างอุตสาหกรรมที่ไม่เป็นธรรม การผูกขาดในห่วงโซ่อุปทาน และการขาดการสนับสนุนจากภาครัฐ บทความเสนอแนวทางแก้ไขเชิงนโยบายแบบหุ้นส่วน ได้แก่ การนำคูปองวัฒนธรรมมาใช้ การสร้างความเป็นธรรมในโครงสร้างอุตสาหกรรม การสนับสนุนร้านหนังสืออิสระโดยตรง และการจัดตั้งสถาบันหนังสือแห่งชาติ เพื่อรักษาร้านหนังสืออิสระในฐานะสินทรัพย์ทางวัฒนธรรมที่สังคมไทยไม่ควรสูญเสียไป
