Agricultural Production System in Kamphaeng Saen District

The objectives of this study were to study and analyze the agricultural system in the area for formulates the sustainable agricultural development guideline of Kamphaeng Saen district. Purposive sampling 3 subdistricts namely Tungluknok, Tungkwang and Sra-patana, which representative all the agricultural activity of the district. The data collect from 61 farmers on 5 items (1) general data of farmers (2) historical profile of agricultural production system (3) present situation of agricultural production system (4) economic of farm (5) social and attitude of farmers. The study revealed that the historical profile of the area started before 1941, paddy and cotton field were the main crop until 1942-1986 cotton field change to sugarcane because of American ball worm and the promotion of sugar mill. On 1987-now, the irrigation system serve the area for all year production such as vegetable, asparagus, cow and baby corn in Tungkwang and Tungluknok and shrimp raising in Sra-patana area. Most farmers transformed their farm because of the marketing problem. The present situation of farm was: farm labors from wage and family, most of farm cost were fertilizer, labor cost, and energy. The most household expenditure was food and children education. Fifty percent of farmer has the dept from the one million one village project. The most problems of farmer were low income and no funding. The suggestion from this study were expanding the high value products that serve the potential of this area such as good agricultural practice (GAP) vegetable for Bangkok metropolitan and export market.
