Thainess, Way of Life, Way of Rice and Way of Isarn: Rice and Life of the Thai Farmers from Mahasarakham Province

Abstract

          The research aims to study the relationship between beliefs and rice that has an important effect on the way of life of the local people from Isarn, in the context of Maha Sarakham Province. The qualitative approach has been adopted. Semi-structured interviews have been applied in order to collect qualitative data. The findings from the study highlighted that for the Thai farmers, particularly the farmers from Isarn, rice is not only what we eat in daily life nor just the economic crops but rice has been regarded as the foundation of life, mottos, culture and traditions that represents the Thainess of the Thais.
