Abstract

The roles of a local leader in managing natural resources and environment of Don Tum District, Nakorn Pathom Province generally were found at the moderate level in overall. Considering in each aspect, conservation was the role that local leaders engaged at highest level, The second highest level of their roles was in prevention part, And the third highest level of their roles was using natural resources/environmen. At the same time, the local leaders normally played moderate level of roles in two parts; namely rehabilitation and development. In this matter, local leaders required many ways to develop their roles in managing natural resources and environment, particularly in managing environmental policies, planning and projects as the highest level following by receiving more  information and increasing knowledge as the second high level. The result of hypothesis testing was that the local leaders with different position, age, period in the position and environmental experience tended to have different levels of roles significantly (at 0.05). In contrast, different genders and different level of educations did not lead to different levels of local leaders’ roles. And also was found that the local leaders with different age, period in the position and environmental experience tended to have different levels of needs significantly(at 0.05). In contrast, different genders and different level of educations did not lead to different levels of local leaders’ needs.
