The Charisma of Mr. Chuan Leekpai In Local Politics : A Case of Trang ‘s 2012 Election of the Provincial Administration Organization Chief Executive

The purpose of the study was to investigate Mr. Chuan Leekpai’s charismatic authority over a Trang Provincial Administrative Organisation (TPAO) election and the association between said authority and the victory of Mr.Kij Leekpai, his older brother, in the TPAO election in 2012. Data were collected from relevant documents and in-depth interviews of sample groups: the samples of the study included 16 persons, such as local politicians, Democrat Party members, government officials and local inhabitants.Findings indicated that Mr. Kij Leekpai did not have the political charisma to enable him to secure victory in the 2012 election. Instead, such success was attributed to Mr. Chuan Leekpai, who had been locally recognised as a charismatic politician. Furthermore, Mr. Chuan Leekpai’s charisma allowed the political dynasty of the Leekpai family in the province to continue.
