Role Play Activity in Teaching English for Police Trainee

Abstract

In the teaching and learning of English, it is very important that teachers could present the styles or methods of teaching and learning of the learners, in order to improve the learners' English language skills that can be used as an effective benefit. In the country learning English as a foreign language, they often encounter problems with students who are not interested in due to the small chance of using English outside of the classroom. In a training facility that police trainee must study, before going to perform the duty of protection which is serving the people, the police trainee also encountered problems in the teaching and learning of English as well as various educational institutions. Because they lack the motivation to learning English including noticeable activities used in classrooms. Therefore, the author is interested in studying the role-play activities for applying to teach English in classrooms. Role-play activity is an effective activity that helps learners practice using English which the learners engage to play in other people's role-playing. It can help learners understand the thoughts and the behaviors that they assume in the personage. Therefore, this article aims to teach English to police trainees through role – playing activity and found that they have fun, focus on studying, and spend time together to practice speaking skills. This activity can help them to understand what they have learned including the ability to use language correctly in real life. Moreover a role – playing activities also can create a positive feeling in learning English.
