A Development of English Camp Activities Curriculum to Prepare Prathomsuksa 6 Students for Joining the ASEAN Community

Abstract

This research was aimed to: 1) develop an English camp activities curriculum to prepare Prathomsuksa 6 students for joining the ASEAN Community; and 2) evaluate the results of the implementation of the curriculum. The research sample, chosen by purposive sampling, consisted of 30 Prathomsuksa students from Wat Khaofa School in Nakhon Sawan Province, during the first semester of the academic year 2017. The research instruments included 1)an English camp activities curriculum, 2) a test on listening and speaking skills with a reliability value of 0.809, and3) an evaluation form on satisfaction towardsthe curriculum with a reliability value of 0.703.  Data were analyzed in terms of mean, standard deviation,t-test and content analysis. Findings revealed that: 1)The English camp activities curriculum to prepare Prathomsuksa 6 students for joining the ASEAN Community had the following components: principle, goals, curriculum structure, content scope,time duration, learning management plans, media for activities, and measurement and evaluation. The draft assessment was found to be related andappropriate.2) The implementation of the curriculum revealed that: (1) the students’ listening and speaking skills after the implementation of the English camp activities curriculum were significantly higher than those before its implementation (p<.05); Overall, the students; listening and speaking skills during the camp activities were at a good level; and (2) Overall, the students were highly satisfied with the camp activities curriculum
