Costs and Returns Analysis of Production of Chili Paste from Crickets in the Area of Tumbon Watpradoo, Amphawa District, Samut

Abstract

This research aims to analyze 1. Study background Information of independent breeding cricket farmers in the area of Tumbon Watpradoo, Amphawa District, Samut Songkhram Province 2. Cost and return from production of cricket’s chili paste and 3. Investigate problems and suggestions on production of cricket’s chili paste. The population and sample were an independent farmers, who raise cricket in the area of Tumbon Watpradoo, Amphawa District, Samut Songkhram Province. Which were selected by purposive sampling. Data were collected from July - September 2023. In-depth interview and focus groups interview were employed as research instruments. Analysis of Qualitative data were classify, compare, and create inductive conclusions. And Quantitative data were calculated based on accounting model. The result shown the independent farmers who raising cricket in occupation and side job. Productivity is approximately 1 ton per month. And sale fresh and frozen cricket to local consumers and wholesaler at Samut Sakhon province and Pathum Thani province. Because the market has slowed down, Famer groups were decided to process the cricket to dried cricket chili paste and Cricket Thai chili paste. That were made 15 dried cricket chili paste at a time. The total production cost was 162.45 baht. The present sale price per unit was 30 baht, if all of unit were sold, profit will be 287.55 baht or 63.90 percent of selling price. And they were made 16 Cricket Thai chili paste at a time. The total production cost was 217.45 baht. The present sale price per unit was 30 baht, if all of unit were sold, profit will be 102.55 baht or 32.05 percent of selling price. However, problems and obstacles may be found if production capacity is expanded includes higher price of raw ingredients, shortage of budget and tools, accounting procedure and cost analysis was incorrect and lacks of marketing skill were affect to the business.
