Guidelines for using crime prevention measuresdue to firearms artifact

Abstract

           

            At the present days, the imitation firearm is used in committing serious crimes including gang robbery, assault, robbery or rape threat or committing other crimes with firearm-resembled items.

            According to this research, it was found that the Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives, Fireworks and Imitation Firearms Act, B.E. 2490 (1947) determined that the imitation firearm was not illegal item since it was not categorized as firearm according to the law definitions. Accordingly, it was used in committing crimes increasingly as the law failed to regulate that possessing, carrying and using the imitation firearm in committing crime was illegal.    

            The author suggests that the solution is to amend the law particularly as a preventive action of crimes with imitation firearm to ensure the law reflects and is suitable to present situations. This law amendment could minimize or eliminate the imitation firearm-related crimes in Thailand society.
