AI Usage Policy

Mahidol Music Journal (MMJ) recognizes the increasing use of Generative AI tools in academic writing and requires their use to be transparent, responsible, and consistent with research and publication ethics.

The use of Generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, DeepSeek, DALL·E 3, Suno, and Udio) in manuscript preparation is permitted only for language improvement and proofreading. AI tools must not be used to generate or develop the substantive content of a manuscript, conduct data analysis, interpret research findings, or replace the authors’ scholarly judgment.

AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors, as they cannot assume responsibility for the integrity, originality, accuracy, or validity of the research. Authors retain full responsibility for the content and integrity of their submitted manuscript.

Authors who use Generative AI for permitted purposes should ensure that any AI-assisted text is carefully reviewed, verified, and edited before submission. The use of AI for substantive content generation or development is not permitted, even when such use is disclosed.

Where Generative AI has been used for permitted language improvement or proofreading, authors should disclose its use when appropriate, stating the name of the AI tool, version (where applicable), and purpose of use in the Acknowledgments section.

Example disclosure statement:

This manuscript was prepared using [NAME OF AI TOOL] for language improvement and proofreading. The content has been reviewed and edited by the authors, who take full responsibility for its accuracy, integrity, and final version.

Definition of Generative AI:

For the purposes of this policy, Generative AI refers to artificial intelligence technologies capable of generating content in various formats, including text, images, audio, and synthetic data. Examples include ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, DeepSeek, DALL·E 3, Suno, and Udio.
