Abstract
The purpose of this research was to study the situation and the potentiality of the related tourism business surrounded hot springs attractions in the upper provincial cluster which consist of Chiang Mai, Maehongson, Lampang, Chiang Rai, Prae, and Nan province. Data collection were field survey, observation, and in-depth interviews with entrepreneurs or relevant managers or at least 5 years of working experience senior employees in the related businesses. The results showed that there were 725 related tourism businesses around the hot springs in the upper northern region which consisted of 46 spa businesses, 303 food and beverage businesses, 166 accommodation businesses, 94 community-based tourism businesses, and 116 other businesses.
The result of in-depth interviews about the situation of related tourism businesses around hot springs attractions were as follow; First, the low impact of the political situation on the number of visitors, revenue as well as hiring the local staff. Second, economic situation: economic growth, and season effected the number of customers and revenue as well as hiring local people at the highest level. Third, social and cultural situations: consumer behaviors, lifestyles, health conscious culture effected more visitors to use the service of related businesses at the high level. Fourth, Technology situations: technology access of the population, the number of personnel using technology and Wi-Fi’s availability were very important to the businesses and effected the number of visitors, revenue as well as hiring the local staff at the high level. For research and development of products and services, using technology were very important.
The result of in-depth interviews toward the potential of related tourism businesses around hot springs attractions were that there should develop the potential of finance, marketing, products and services, and the human resource potential accordingly.
