Self- Healthcare Development Strategy for Repeated Flooding Community in NakhonSawan Province

Abstract

   The study entitled “Self-Healthcare Development Strategy for Repeated Flooding Community in Nakhon Sawan Province” aimed to: 1) study the situation, community lifestyle, key factors, and analyze health problems in flooding; 2) develop strategies for self-healthcare in flooding; 3) evaluate the created strategies. The research was mixed between quantitative and qualitative approach. The sampling group were households’ leaders of WatKhaoChomKhiriNakProt Community, Nakhon Sawan Province. The qualitative data were collected by interviews, focus group discussion and lessons learned in community. The quantitative data were collected from the results of their development strategy, the health care community. The experiment lasted five weeks. Pre-test, post-test and follow-up 4 weeks after the experiment was conducted. The samples were 35 households’ leaders of WatKhaoChomKhiriNakProt Community.
   The research results were as follows: health problems of the community were health risks during flooding because of no system for health care development in flooding; the created system consisted of two units for strategic function, 1) development of mechanisms and management for community health in flooding, and 2) preparedness in self-healthcare in flooding. The experiment with the created strategies revealed that the pilot group gained better knowledge, attitude, and skills at the 0.001 level of signification.
