Abstract

          This research aimed to: 1) study indirect influences of  transformational leadership which affect the business performance of Thai food export industries; 2) study direct influences of innovation which affect the business performance of Thai food export industries; 3) study direct influences of transformational leadership which affect the business performance of Thai food export industries; and 4) develop the transformational leadership model and the  innovation which affect the business operation of Thai food export industries.

          The population were the managers and the export marketing managers of the 2,585 food export companies in Thailand which registered with the Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce. 388 companies were taken from the population for this research. The tools used in the research to gather the information were divided into two types, namely the questionnaire and the interview. 1) Questionnaires were used to ask the opinion of the managers of the 388 food export companies which registered with the Department of International Trade Promotion. 2) The interviews were the in-depth interviews of the managers of the 9 food export companies in Thailand which registered with the Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce. The statistics used for the analyses were: (1) frequency distribution, percentage, arithmetic average and standard deviation; (2) confirmatory factor analysis; (3) linear regression analysis; and (4) descriptive statistics, inferential statistics and structural equation model.

          The followings were the findings of the research. 1) Transformational leadership, product innovation, process innovation and marketing innovation were all at a high level. Variables of the transformational leadership and the innovation influencing the business performance of Thai food export industries conformed to the empirical data. Transformational leadership had positive indirect influence on business performance through process innovation, product innovation and marketing innovation. 2) Product innovation and marketing innovation had positive direct influences on business performance at the statistical significance level of 0.05. 3)The transformational leadership had no direct influence on business performance but had highest influence on marketing innovation. Product innovation had highest influence on business performance, and the new customers could indicate the success of the business performance.4) The model of the transformational leadership and innovation influencing business performance of Thai food export industries was developed.
