Development of Creative Media to Promote Learning and Reduce Learning Disabilities Characteristics for Students with Learning Disabilities at the Elementary Level

Abstract

Creative media in Thai, English and Mathematics Subjects, each comprising 10 learning units, were developed for 102 primary school teachers (grades 4-6) form 17 inclusive schools across 17 northern provinces. These media were designed to support the instruction of 34 students with learning disabilities per subject, totaling 102 students. The objectives were to promote learning and reduce characteristics of learning disabilities, fostering skill applicable to daily life for primary school students with learning disabilities. The research instruments included pretest and posttest for each learning unit and assessments of learning disabilities characteristics. The finding revealed that:


1.Learning outcomes: After using creative media, students with learning disabilities performed well in Thai and Mathematics and moderately in English, with average scores of 78.68%, 70.90% and 63.16%, respectively. The relative growth scores for Mathematics, Thai and English were 40%, 39% and 33%, indicated moderate improvement in all three subjects.


  1. Reduction in learning disabilities characteristics:

   -Thai: The greatest improvement was observed, with reductions in reading disabilities (31 out of 32 characteristics, 96.88%) and writing disabilities (18 out of 20 characteristics, 90%).


   -English: Moderate improvement was observed, with reductions in reading disabilities (13 out of 24 characteristics, 54.17%) and writing disabilities (11 out of 15 characteristics, 73.33%).


   -Mathematics:  Calculation disabilities decreased moderately (20 out of 27 characteristics, 74.07%).
