Literacy through Activities for Secondary School Students

Abstract

This article presents the finding of action research that aims to analyzes current situation, problem, and media usage behaviors of secondary school students while also proposing a learning process to enhance media literacy through activities. The results indicate a significant increase in students' media usage with very high levels of engagement. Most of them engage for entertainment, followed by education, communication, and  income generation and career development. Participation in group activities enabled students to design, plan, and implement initiatives based on their potential and interests while also creating learning spaces for them to produce and showcase creative media projects and share knowledge through online platforms. Additionally, the study recommends establishing a media literacy network as a key mechanism to support activities with local groups, promote media literacy campaigns, protect against social media threats, and monitor cybercrime effectively.
