BUDDHIST BAI LAN SCRITURE CLASSIFICATION OF TEMPLES IN FOUR PROVINCES OF THE NORTHEAST

Abstract

          The Objectives of this research article were to 1) to study, collect and categorize the Buddhist Bai Lan scriptures of temples in the four provinces of the Northeast, and 2) to analyze the value of the Buddhist Bai Lan scriptures on Isan people. It is exploratory and documentary research. The research results were found that 1) Categories of Buddhist Bai Lan scriptures of temples in the four provinces of the Northeast consisting of Nakhonratchasima Buriram Khonkean and Ubonratchathani are divided into six categories : 1) content on Buddhist doctrines which is appear in Tipitaka namely Vinayapitaka Suttantapitaka and Abhidhammapitaka Samantapasadika Visuddhimagga Abhidhammatthasamgaha 2) Vessantara Jataka content 3) Seven Abhidhammapitikas example : Samgani Vibhang Kathavatthu Puggalapanyatti Samantamahapatthan 4) Pali grammar example : Kaccayana grammar 5) content on various virtues example : the virtues of making merit, giving arm-food, protecting five precepts, giving and 6) content on folklore example : Kankark Champasiton Tao Sowat Buahom Buahong. The Buddhist scriptures used for inscription contain Khmer script, Isan text. The language used will be purely Pali, Pali language, Thai including all Isan dialects. From the study, it is found that The Buddhist Bai Lan scriptures in Nakhonratchasima Buriram are written by Khmer script, but in Khonkean and Ubonratchathani by Isan text. The value of the Buddhist scriptures of the temples in the four provinces of the Northeast has three values: 1) cultural and traditional, 2) belief, and 3) education.
