THE EFFECTIVENESS OF LEADING STATISTICAL PROGRAM FOR TEACHING INTRODUCTION FOR ECONOMETRICS

Abstract

          The objectives of this article were to: 1) study the effectiveness of operating statistical software packages for teaching in the subject of Introduction to Econometrics; 2) compare the standards of learning from the curriculum into the subject of Introduction of Econometrics between before and after operating statistical software packages, and 3) study problems and suggestions of operating statistical software packages. Software package and questionnaires were used to collect data from 37 participants with the Purposive sampling method. The data were analyzed by using Mean, Standard Deviation, and t-test. The results from analysis of knowledge and understanding in the subject of Introduction to Econometrics showed the students had more knowledge and understanding in the subject of Introduction to Econometrics overall at a high level. The students could read a result, and write a data analysis report from the statistical software packages in order to apply with another subjects and transfer knowledge for others. Moreover, the students realized that the statistical software packages could increase more convenience for calculating. The results of comparison the standards of learning from the curriculum into the subject of Introduction of Econometrics showed the students had overall skills from a moderate level to a high level, that is, students had more intellectual skills with statistically significance difference at 0.01 while knowledge skill and numerical analysis, communication and information technology skills with statistically significance difference at 0.05. The results of problems and suggestions found in terms of Location including too small classroom, high temperature, not see the projector screen due to too much light in the classroom. In terms of Facilities, the quantity of computers was insufficient for one group of students, leading to the lack of full capacity for learning.
