MODEL OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND SPORT IN LEISURE TIME OF UNIVERSITY STUDENT IN HO CHI MINH CITY

The objectives of this research article were: find out the model of physical activities and sports in leisure time among university students in Ho Chi Minh City in term of characteristics in physical activities and sports and participation level. The type of research is qualitative research. The sample is 1,489 students from large five universities in Ho Chi Minh City University that located on several districts in Ho Chi Minh City. There are three public universities, Sai Gon University, Ton Duc Thang University and Ho Chi Minh City Industrial University. There are two private universities, Hong Bang International University and Hoa Sen University. The research tool was questionnaires about characteristics in physical activities and sports and the level of participation. The data were analyzed by using frequency and percentage distributions for the demographic data and hypothesis testing for comparing the differences in participation levels. The result found that attendance in physical activities and sport were 21.7% high participant level, 36.1% moderate level, 40.8% low level and 1.4% absent. The most popular five activities were walking, running, soccer, yoga, and basketball. Most of the students did activities at university (45.8%). It was found that there were differences in participation in the activities by gender, age, education year, location of residence. and type of university Males have higher levels of attendance than females. During that age, it was found that age 19 had the highest activity participation. Consistent with Year 2, it ranks highest in 4 years. Students residing in the central district have higher attendance than other districts. It was found that participation from private universities was higher than the government university. The researcher's advice is to pay more attention to the facilities at the university and to organize competitions at the university to encourage student participation.
