STRATEGIES FOR HIGHWAY ACCIDENT PREVENTION ON HIGHWAYS OF LOEI 1 HIGHWAY DISTRICT, LOEI THAILAND

Abstract

       The objectives of the research article were: 1) study condition and problem for highway accident prevention on highway, 2) define strategy for highway accident prevention on highway, and 3) to evaluate highway accident prevention on highway of Loei 1. The combined study was conducted, both quantitative and qualitative in the research and development model, it is divided into 3 phases: phases 1 to study condition and problem for accident, population is 332,515 highway users aged 18 years and over. A sample group of 400 persons who was driving on highway of Loei, the questionnaire was used with statistics analysis on frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. Phases 2 define strategy for accident prevention by the key informants were department head of 12 persons, and also using in-depth interviews, group discussions, content analysis, and phases 3 evaluate accident prevention the key informants by specific selected were 30 person who driving on highway of Loei, for using an assessment was used with statistics analysis on frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and summarize the overview. This research found that: 1) condition and problem for highway accident prevention on highway was high level (μ = 3.79, σ = 0.65)) such as 1.1) driver safety, 1.2) roads and traffic safety, 1.3) vehicle safety, 1.4) reaction of after accident, and 1.5) security management. 2) Strategic definable consists of vision, mission, goals and strategies including with 2.1) improving integrated safety, 2.2) safe driving with traffic discipline, 2.3) technology and innovation for safety, and 2.4) emergency medical service of volunteer network. And 3) strategic evaluation was appropriate and possibility, average level μ >3.51 or higher was considered to pass the assessment criteria.
