THE PRIORITY NEED TO PROMOTE THE RESEARCH COMPETENCY OF STUDENT TEACHERS OF FACULTY OF EDUCATION AND LIBERAL ARTS, HATYAI UNIVERSITY

Abstract

The Objectives of this research article were to 1) the realistic condition and expectation condition related to the research competency, 2) to study the priority need to promote the research competency, and 3) to rank the priority need to promote the research competency of student teachers of Faculty of Education and Liberal Arts, Hatyai University. Carried out by the Stratified Random Sampling, the sample consisted of 117 student teachers enrolling a research course in the second semester of the 2020 academic year of Faculty of Education and Liberal Arts, Hatyai University. This research was conducted using quantitative research methodology. The research tool was a set of the priority need assessment form, with 34 five-rating scale items, to promote the research competency of student teachers. The statistics used to analyze the obtained data included the mean, standard deviation, and PNI _modified. The results were as follows: 1) When the content of the priority need to promote the research competency was separately considered, it was found that using statistics and analyzing data at 0.39 followed by writing a summary and discussion, writing a statement of the problem and introduction at writing a literature review, having the basic knowledge of research and developing a research methodology showed the PNI _modified at 0.36, .33, at .21.20, and .20 respectively. 2) The ranking of the priority need to promote the research competency varied separately was found that student teachers had the priority need to develop the research competency in data analysis at first, followed by writing a summary and discussion, writing a statement of the problem and introduction, writing a literature review, having the basic knowledge of research, and developing a research methodology respectively.
