SUPERNATURAL MOTIFS IN THE REAL GHOSTS; A SHOW AIRED ON YOUTUBE DURING 2019-2020

Abstract

The objectives of this research article were to 1) study supernatural motifs in the Real Ghosts, a show aired on YouTube during 2019-2020, and 2) study supernatural beliefs in the Real Ghosts that was aired on YouTube. This research is qualitative, analyzing conversations in the Real Ghosts, a show aired on YouTube during 2019-2020 in 46 episodes, and using the motifs concepts of Stith Thompson to study supernatural motifs from the Real Ghosts. The supernatural motifs were divided into 3 groups. The first group consisted of ghosts, angels, animals, or unusual humans. The second group consisted of objects such as magical items, items with extraordinary properties, and the third group consisted of events or supernatural behavior. The results of the study were presented by descriptive and analytical methods. The research found that: 1) the supernatural motifs were divided into 3 groups, the first group consisted of characters with 32 motifs, the second group consisted of objects with 10 motifs, and the third group consisted of events or supernatural behavior with 19 motifs. 2) The supernatural beliefs such as merit dedication, reincarnation, praying to sacred objects, worshiping ghosts, possession, and successors. A study of supernatural motifs and supernatural beliefs caused a social phenomenon that influences the lifestyle of people in Thai society; supernatural belief as a spiritual anchor to keep life on a prosperous track and helps people to do good, adhering to precepts of the need for liberation, causing people to behave in a moral way.
