Development of achievement on ratio and percentage problems through the use of skill exercise based on Polya’s problem solving procedures of grade-8 students at Kalasin College of Dramatic Arts

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to: 1) develop the Mathematics skill exercise on ratio and percentage problems through the use of skill exercise based on Polya’s problem solving procedures, and then determine the efficiency compared to the proposed criterion at 75/75 and the effectiveness index of the developed package, 2) compare the learning achievement on Mathematics learning of both before and after learning by using the package, and 3) study the students’ satisfaction on Mathematics learning. The samples were 25 Grade-8 students at at Kalasin College of Dramatic Arts, Bunditpatanasilpa Institute, Ministry of Culture studying in 2017 academic year received from simple random sampling. The research instruments were: 1) 12 lesson plans on ratio and percentage problems through the use of skill exercise based on Polya’s problem solving procedures, 2) five skill exercises on ratio and percentage problems, 3) 20 items of multiple choice with 4 alternatives of learning achievement test on ratio and percentage problems, and 4) 15 items questionnaire of students’ satisfaction on learning. The results revealed that: 1) the efficiency of the package was 78.46/87.00 which higher than committed standard, while the effectiveness index was 0.75, 2) the learning achievement after learning through the package was statistically significant higher than at p-value less than 0.01, and 3) the students’ satisfaction towards this learning was in the highest level.
