ADAPTATION AND MAINTENANCE OF ISLAMIC THOUGHT GROUPS IN THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY OF KOH YAO NOI

Abstract

This research article the objective is to analyze the adaptation and maintenance of Islamic thought groups in the Muslim community of Koh Yao Noi This research is qualitative. Research papers and the field using techniques. The research method in ethnographic cultural anthropology for 6 months was based on 4 data collection processes. Documentary Research, Informal Interview, In-depth Interview and Participant Observation, analytic induction were used and the analysis was done by typological analysis.

          The results showed that social changes that contributed to the adaptation and maintenance of identity in Koh Yao Noi consisted of 4 periods, which led to the movement of the three thought groups, namely the Sufi group, and the Jama ‘ah Tabligh group. and the Salafi group. The Sufis



movement is the most recognized in the Muslim community of Ko Yao Noi. The adjustment after Palang Ae's death was to focus on the religious activities that Palang Ae ordered and have adaptations in the books used to teach using only Arabic books The Malayu Jawi book was not used as in the Palang Ae period. However, the Jama'ah Tabligh group, due to the lack of cooperation from the villagers in the area, as a result, various operations must be limited in the area of ​​Ban Tha Khao Mosque (place of prayer for Muslims). And it is difficult for the Jama'ah Tabligh will maintain the identity of the group in the area. And the Salafi group After the establishment of educational institutions and educational reforms by the times and based on good morals adaptation not only elevates the Salafi group to play a role and participate in the community. but also to prevent conflicts that may arise on issues with different academic opinions.
