The Comparative Analysis of the Actors Involved in Transnational Trafficking in Human Beings for the Purpose of Organ Removal on the Guidelines of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and INTERPOL

Abstract

This academic article aims to study and conduct a comparative analysis of the actors involved in transnational trafficking in human beings for the purpose of organ removal (THBOR), based on the guidelines of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL). The study adopts qualitative research using documentary legal research methodologies. Data were analyzed from primary sources, including legal provisions, United Nations Conventions, and other relevant international laws, as well as from secondary sources, such as research reports, books, textbooks, articles, study reports, statistical data, etc. The findings identify six categories of actors involved in transnational trafficking in human beings for the purpose of organ removal, namely: (1) recruiters and/or brokers, (2) medical and health care professionals, (3) actors in the health care, (4) actors in other sectors (outside the healthcare sector), (5) organ recipients, and (6) organ suppliers. This academic article is part of a research project on criminal compulsory measures on the investigation of transnational trafficking in human beings for the purpose of organ removal.
