Abstract
Forensic anthropological imaging constitutes a fundamental component of human identification, skeletal analysis, and the admissibility of forensic evidence within the justice system. This article aims to review the international role of forensic anthropological imaging, critically examine specialized standards currently applied worldwide, compare them with the Thai context, and synthesize national-level policy recommendations. An integrative narrative review of international standards, including ISO 21043, SWGIT, FOROST, FIRS, and ANZPAA, was conducted.
The findings indicate that Thailand currently lacks a dedicated national standard for forensic anthropological imaging, resulting in substantial variability in image quality, digital evidence integrity, and judicial admissibility. To address this gap, the study proposes the Thai Forensic Anthropological Imaging Standard (TFAIS) as a national framework for standardizing imaging practice, digital data management, and integration with the national human identification system.
The proposed TFAIS is intended to function as a central structural mechanism for strengthening forensic imaging systems in Thailand, enhancing the scientific reliability of skeletal documentation, improving the credibility of digital forensic evidence, and supporting interdisciplinary human identification across the national forensic infrastructure.
