The Development of Cultural Learning Activities with Community Participation: A Case Study of Kasetsart University Demonstration School, Kamphaeng Saen Campus, Educational Research and Development Center

Abstract

This action research aimed to develop cultural learning activities with community participation: A case study of Kasetsart University Demonstration School, Kamphaeng Saen Campus, Educational Research and Development Center. The research process consisted of 3 phases: 1) preparation and activity design phase 2) activity implementation phase and 3) reflection phase. The participants in the research included 14 administrators, teachers, parents, local scholars who played the role of co-developing learning activities and reflecting results, and 40 Mathayom 4 students who were purposively selected to play the role of participants in learning activities. Data were collected using achievement tests, skill tests, and satisfaction tests. Results were summarized and reflected through interviews and group discussions. Data were analyzed using statistics, including percentages, means, standard deviations, t-tests, and content analysis.

The results of the research found that 1) Development of cultural learning activities with community participation under the “Kamphaeng Saen Local Traditions and Culture Learning Plan” 2) The academic achievement of students after studying was significantly higher than before studying at a statistical level of .01. Students had good working skills. And the satisfaction of the students with the learning activities is at a high level. 3) The reflection found that the students have a better understanding of local culture, can apply the knowledge to their daily lives and it creates a good relationship between the school and the community. As for the suggestions, there should be further development of the activities and the creation of a cooperation network between the school and the community so that the management of cultural learning is sustainable.
