Abstract

This research aimed to study the reasons and the needs of students and parents to apply for an undergraduate program at Srinakharinwirot University. The sample group consinted of 400 students and parents, who enrolled directly in undergraduate program of Srinakharinwirot University in the academic year 2016. The data were collected using questionnaires. The results were as follows: Seniors, university website, parents, and the schools’ guidance department had a significant influence on the decision of students and parents to apply for admission. The institute reputation and the students’ growth needs were the most important reasons of students to apply. Reasons and needs to apply for an admission varied by sex and influence significantly at p ≤ 0.05. The university reputation, the student needs, and the convenient transportation were the important reasons that the parents allow the students to study. The students’ needs, the university reputation, social acceptance, knowledge, and the environment inside the university were the major needs that parents  considered to allow the students to study
