The Design of Creative Basketry Handicraft Products with Participation from in Bang Chao Cha Community, Ang Thong Province

Abstract

This research was a participative design of creative basketry handicraft products. The objectives of this study were 1) to investigate the model of basketry handicraft products, 2) to design creative models of creative basketry handicraft products, and 3) to disseminate the design of creative basketry handicraft products and measure satisfaction with the dissemination. The research used a community-based participatory action research. The research area was basketry community, Bang Chao Cha Village, Bang Chao Cha Sub-district, Pho Thong District, Ang Thong Province. The research characteristics were divided into two parts: qualitative research and quantitative research. The results of the research revealed that the current Bang Chao Cha community basketry handicraft products had distinctive characteristics and were valuable in many types of hand-made basketry patterns. Local natural materials were used to create the products. The basketry was delicate, refined, and beautiful. The patterns were exotic and were decorated with a variety of colors. The products had a functional character that was consistent with the modern way of life and retained the original local wisdom concept in creating them in harmony with the ideals and beliefs of the community in formulating creative ideas. The design results of 3 new creative basketry handicraft products included floor lamp products, table lamp products, and sitting products. Overall assessment result by experts was at a high level ( = 4.29, S.D. = 0.59). Regarding the dissemination of works to the public, it was found that people gained knowledge and understanding, had an impression of basketry, saw the value of basketry, created inspiration for further knowledge, and had a positive attitude towards basketry handicrafts. The overall assessment result was at a high level ( = 4.36, S.D. = 0.56).
