Abstract

This research paper is a qualitative and quantitative research. Its purpose was to explore and collect prominently unique local stories to lead to the analysis of guidelines for using local stories to convey meaning as well as studying the needs of the community in applying local stories to promote creative tourism in Chainat, Singburi, and Lopburi Provinces. A specific sample group was defined, and it covered communities or tourist attractions in Chainat, Singburi, and Lopburi Provinces that had been selected to develop into 14 creative tourist attractions. The results of the study revealed that local stories that were unique and suitable for conveying in the promotion of creative tourism in all 3 provinces could be classified into 7 categories: 1) historical and important events, 2) local people’s way of life, 3) local food, 4) handicrafts, 5) agriculture, 6) natural resource and environmental management, and 7) auspicious and sacred sites. There were three approaches for using local stories to convey meaning in promoting creative tourism: 1) using local narratives to create meaningful content for creative tourism, 2) using local stories to design activities that convey creative tourism, and 3) using local stories to design storytelling to covey meaning for navigating the places of creative tourist attractions. Community or tourist attractions wanted to apply local stories the most in promoting marketing by advertising and public relations to promote creative tourism (mean = 4.44).
