Abstract

The research aims to study and collect data about the integration of Thai local wisdoms to encourage Thais’ well-beings in an emerging disease period (COVID-19). Additionally, it aims to analyse roles and significance of local Thai wisdoms to promote health and to offer a practical model to encourage Thais’ well-beings during the upcoming period of disease transmission. The researcher collected data by reviewing documents and searching keywords such as Thai local wisdom, well-being promotion, an emerging disease, COVID-19 Thai society, and beliefs from online fieldwork. The collected data from January 2020 to April 2022 were then analysed using the content analysis method and Functionalism by William Bascom. The research found that Thai local wisdoms which are integrated into the treatment of COVID-19 include 1. The local wisdom about traditional medicines and herbs 2. The local wisdom of ethnic rituals for protection and treatment 3. The local wisdom from religious beliefs and rituals 4. The local wisdom about sacred objects to protect COVID-19 in accordance with myths and local beliefs. The fundamental knowledge significantly plays the roles on disease protection, health promotion, and mindful therapy in times of the spreading of COVID-19. Additionally, the findings will provide a helpful approach for incorporating local knowledge as an alternative and complementary treatment to improve treatment proficiency of the unusual illness spread in the upcoming years.
