Abstract
Tourism Development Direction of Sukhothai Province to Support the ASEAN Community.
The research aims to study on tourism in Sukhothai Province and evaluate to support the ASEAN Community in aspect of tourism resources, service and tourism business, marketing and tourism managements. It also introduces the tourism development direction for this province to reach and ready for the ASEAN Community. This research is an action research, using qualitative methodology combined with quantitative methodology. The non-experimental design was done through surveys, interviews, questionnaires, evaluation, focus group discussions and seminar. The data were collect from the government, business, community leaders and tourists. The result from tourism evaluation and space matrix showed that Sukhothai Province have the outstanding on tourism resources and tourism marketing. Moreover the external environment is serving as an opportunity for travelling and the opening of ASEAN Community. But in the aspects of service business, tourism and facilities which will be develop, improve and prevent problem obstacle by the government in order to integrated collaboration with others. In addition, the result from seminar in concept of giving guideline and introduce the tourism development for Sukhothai province defined as “Sukhothai: the dawn of happiness and ASEAN World Heritage Centre” so they have require to develop their legacy as number 1 of World Heritage whereas the tourist will realize on the East-West Economic Corridor: EWEC. The development will emphasize on multi-dimensional (Political, Social, Cultural and Economics) and develop both of proactive and reactive effectively to competition. The development can be divided into 3 strategies; 1) strategies for proactive development of tourism resources to aggressive as the center of ASEAN World Heritage (Aggressiveor SO Strategies) especially in historical tourism, cultural, traditional and the way of Sukhothai regard to religion composing of 6 plans 2) strategies for service and facilities adaptation for tourism to reach in standard (Defensive or WT strategies) that composing of 7 plans 3) strategies for support on communication and marketing on proactive tourism (Aggressiveor So Strategies) that composing of 4 plans.
