บทคัดย่อ

การศึกษาคุณลักษณะทางภาษาศาสตร์ของชื่อพืชในภาษาชาติพันธุ์ไท เผยให้เห็นถึงประโยชน์ของภาษาศาสตร์ที่มีต่อพฤกษศาสตร์ชาติพันธุ์ว่าเป็นเสมือนกุญแจสำคัญในการศึกษาด้านพฤกษศาสตร์ชาติพันธุ์ เนื่องจากภาษาเป็นกระจกเงาสะท้อนโลกทัศน์และความคิด ตลอดจนภูมิปัญญาในการดำรงชีวิตในอยู่รอดปลอดภัยของมนุษย์ ยิ่งมีความเข้าใจในตัวภาษามากเท่าไร ก็ยิ่งเข้าใจในตัวผู้พูดภาษามากเท่านั้น ในการที่จะเข้าใจมุมมองของมนุษย์ที่มีต่อพืชแวดล้อมก็จะต้องทำความเข้าใจภาษาที่ใช้เรียกชื่อพืชของมนุษย์ การศึกษาการเรียกชื่อพืชโดยวิธีการทางภาษาศาสตร์จึงเป็นการนำไปสู่ความเข้าใจมุมมองดังกล่าว และเป็นเหตุให้นักพฤกษศาสตร์ชาติพันธุ์สนใจศึกษาภาษาเพื่อที่จะทำการสืบค้นไปถึงภูมิปัญญาของผู้พูดภาษานั้นๆ

Abstract

The study of linguistic properties of plant names in Tai languages reveals that linguistics benefits ethno-botany as a key to the field because languages could reflect people worldviews, thoughts and wisdom in living their lives safely. The more we know a particular language, the more we understand its speakers. To understand the human viewpoint about surrounding plants, we have to get insight in human languages. Linguistics is thus an efficient means to such the view and is the reason why ethno-botanists are interested in the language studies to examine the wisdom of such language speakers.
