Abstract

The objectives of this research were (1) to develop and audio book designing system for Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) ; (2) to try out the developed audio book designing system for STOU ; (3) to present the audio book designing system for STOU ; and (4) to study user’s satisfaction with the audio book designing system for STOU.  The research sample comprised the following groups: (1) a group of three purposively selected content instructors who tried out the developed system of designing audio book for STOU courses; (2) a group of seven purposively selected experts on instructional design; and (3) a group of 30 randomly selected STOU undergraduate students who enrolled in the first semester of the 2015 academic year. The employed research instruments were (1) questionnaires for instructors and students on their needs for using the audio book; (2) a system of designing audio book for Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) courses; (3) an evaluation form for the five experts for assessment of the developed system of designing audio book for STOU courses.  The research process comprised the following steps: (1) a study of the body of knowledge concerning the prototype model by analysis and synthesis of basic information;

(2) a study of the needs for using the prototype model of audio book; (3) development of theoretical framework for the prototype model; (4) asking for opinions and recommendations of the experts; (5) drafting the prototype model; (6) efficiency testing and certifying of the prototype model; and (7) improvement of the prototype model.

            Research results were as follows: (1) the developed system of designing audio book for STOU courses was composed of eight steps: (1.0) a study of learning needs; (2.0) analysis of learners; (3.0) analysis of the context and environment; (4.0) analysis of contents based on the cognitive domain, affective domain, and process skills and psycho-motor domain objectives; (5.0) designing audio book for lecturing, interviewing, conversation, and dramatizing; (6.0) development of audio book for lecturing, interviewing, conversation, and dramatizing; (7.0) conducting instruction with the use of the developed audio book; and (8.0) evaluation; (2) try-out results of the developed audio book with a group of 30 experimental group students showed that the developed audio book were efficient at the .01 level of statistical significance with the post-learning achievement being higher than the pre-learning achievement; and (3) the developed audio book for STOU courses were certified by the experts to be appropriate for implementation.
