Abstract

Care for end-of-life patients refers to looking after those almost passing away, whether from life-threatening or chronic illnesses. The senior with illnesses, in particular, require holistic medical care and treatment, especially the spiritual perspective one which aims to patients’ good death. The good death stands for the death towards which patients realize that their needs are taken care of without any physical, psychological and social sufferings. The spiritual perspective care is particularly crucial for end-of-life patients. Therefore, knowledge, understanding and preparation concerning spiritual perspective to help those patients will enable them to pass away peacefully and with human dignity. This article aims to propose ways for spiritual perspective preparation for end-of-life patients so that undertakers close to them and professional nurses have knowledge and understanding about concepts on this issue. Besides preparing spiritual and emotional sustenance for patients, it encourages them to find meanings of life and illness, love and relationship, asking for and giving forgiveness, observing religious principles, beliefs and maintaining patients’ hope. This will serve patients’ and their family’s spiritual needs for the best life quality according to individual’s context as much as possible during the remaining time under the major principle of enhancing life quality of both patients and their family.
