Abstract

This research aimed to study the behaviour and impacts of social media use among Nursing Students at Boromarajonani College of Nursing Sanpasithiprasong Ubon ratchathani province, Thailand. The sampleswere nursing 260 nursing students inthe 1st - 4thyear class of 2020.The questionnaires divided into 3parts: part1Demographics, part2 social media behaviour questionnaires, and part3 social media use questionnaires, which was tested the reliability at 0.94 in part 2 and 0.95 in part 3. The data was analysed by general statistics; frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. The results found thatmajority of the students had own account  on social media platforms. The most popular was Facebook (96.5%), followed by (Line94.6%), and YouTube (92.7%). The main purpose was using for education. Before bedtime period was the most frequent surfing time. In most cases, the average time spent on online media was more than 5 hours/day (38.1%). The samples are affected by media usage; overall social media is moderate (𝑥̅ = 3.39, S.D. = .95). The most significant impact from social media usage is: Social and family (𝑥̅ = 3.89, S.D. = .87). Followed by the education (𝑥̅= 3.71, S.D. = .76), Economic status (𝑥̅= 3.63, S.D. = 1.01), Mental and emotional health (𝑥̅ = 3.29, S.D. = .77), Physical health (𝑥̅= 3.15, S.D. = 1.13), Concentration and attention (𝑥̅ = 3.89, S.D. = .87), And daily life (𝑥̅= 2.69, S.D. = .98) respectively. As a result, it can be concluded that nursing student was negatively affected by social media use. Therefore; the staff should establish a guideline for further prevention of negative social media use behaviour to enhance health and well-being of students.
