Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to investigate behaviors and effects of social media use and 2) to compare the effects of social media use classified by personal characteristics and social media use behavior of lower secondary school students in Mueang District, Phitsanulok Province. A questionnaire was used as a research instrument for data collection from the sample of 394 students. The data were analyzed by using percentage, mean, standard deviation t-test and One-way ANOVA. The major findings revealed that 1) the lower secondary school student used mobile phone to access Facebook every day with during 16.01 – 20.00 p.m. for entertainment, watching movies, listening to music, following the artist and celebrity news and the effects of social media use were at moderate level as follows: social, physical, and psychological or emotional, whereas learning was at low level and 2) the comparing effects of social media used of lower secondary school students showed that the different age, grade, school, frequency, period of time, and media type were affected of social media use with statistically significant level of 0.05.
