This research aims at studying social capital characteristics, methods to promote social capital and synthesizing model of using social capital to strengthen human capital in border towns of Thai and Cambodia. The study used qualitative research focusing on in–depth interview and focus group of 60 key–informants. Data analysis has been done with logical interpretation and contextual analysis.
Finds of the research show that Thai social capital characteristics are more formality and complexity than Cambodia that can more contribute to strengthen human capital.
Methods for promoting Thai social capital emphasize on traditional types; they are 1) following religious doctrine 2) jointing in community activities and 3) using kinship relation and modern types such as setting practice agreement, and regulation. For Cambodia uses only traditional type.
Styles of using Thai social capital to strengthen human capital focuses on socialization, exchange information and knowledge forum, training education, practice and reinforcement through 4) main socializing agents (family, community, religious institute and governmental organization).For Cambodia still limited using, they just use social capital for spiritual promotion not cover intellectual and skill.
Important recommendation:Thai can contribute for promoting Cambodia social capital to strengthen their human capital if the two governments make policy agreement.
