The Impact of Water Management on Clam Enterprise in Klong Khon Subdistrict, Mueang District, Samut Songkhram Province

Abstract

The qualitative research aimed to investigate the impact of water resource which affected the clam enterprises in Klong Khon Sub-district, Mueang District, Samut Songkhram Province and the way in water resource management. There is an in-depth interview which used to 5 officials and 17 clam famers totally 22 interviewees. The data was analyzed in descriptive techniques by means of the data reduction, data display, and drawing and verifying conclusion techniques to understand in these phenomena respectively. Research results found that the past water management used was from villager’s wisdom as tidal current, but the water qualitative and quantitative problems crucially increased. The government roles were in water management but it is still not solved all the problems yet. The social impact was the fishing farmers who needed the mangrove forest which is the clam house. The economic effect, there were decreased out of clam enterprises. The new outcome was part-time work which was the mangrove forest ecotourism. And the environment effect was water resources deteriorated, and there were a lot of clams died. The short-term recommendation is to build cooperation in all water management process. The long-run approach is to systematically plan all the water management to match with Samut Songkhram province to empower the sustainable water management.
