The Success of Community-based tourism Management: A case study of Thaka Floating Market in Samutsongkhlam

Abstract

The objectives of this article are to study success of the community-based tourism of Thaka Floating Market in Samut Songkhram, and to study conditions of the success of Thaka Floating Market. The methodology of qualitative research was utilized with in-dept interviews and observations. The study found that communitybased tourism of Thaka Floating Market is successful in 4 dimensions – that is, first, attaining the target of the number of tourism; second, increasing villagers’ income and employment; third, restoring traditions and local culture; finally, conserving natural resources and environment. The conditions of success of this Flooting Market are as follows – firstly, management of villagers’ participation; secondly, acceptance of leaderships; thirdly, community’s social capital; lastly, external agents’ support.
