Abstract

This study entitled "The social construction of the elderly representations" emphasis to demonstrate the practices of the construction of elderly representations as a process of social institutions: political institution; medical institution; educational institution; economic institution and communication institution for separated old age group. This is a documentary research based on the social constructionist gerontologist paradigms. The findings indicates the social institutions were participated to practices the power to constructs the elderly representations into a negative stereotype. In addition, those were decreased the individual abilities and seniority of the elderly and excluded them to the spaces of power to dominated their physical, mental and environmental with ageism. It was also locked door - locked them by the fixed negative representations.
