Abstract

This research examines the effects of a group counseling program based on a cognitive behavioral approach on psychological resilience in ethnic minority junior high school students. This study employed the quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest control group design of 22 ethnic minority junior high school students in the academic year 2021 (aged 13-15) simple random sampling assigned the students to the experimental and the control groups with 11 students each. The research instruments utilized in this study were the Psychological Resilience Questionnaire developed by Nintachan, Sangon, & Thaweekoon (2010) and the group counseling program based on the cognitive-behavioral approach to psychological resilience developed by the researcher. The data analysis for this research employed descriptive statistics and independent and dependent sample t-tests. The results of this research indicated increased psychological resilience among the experimental group after participating in the counseling program based on the cognitive-behavioral approach. They also received higher scores compared to the control group. Both results were statistically significant, at 0.001 level higher.
