Abstract

The goal of this study is to first perform the dynamic of the highway regime’s effect on Thai society, and then to convey how the highway regime affects Thai people’s lives. This research examines highway practice as a form of spatial politics. During the Cold War, American influence was significant, and the highway’s quality was far greater than it had ever been. This project aided in the upkeep and surveillance of the Thai state for military purposes. This article focuses on the political challenges surrounding national highways, which serve as a strong dominating region. This research employs historical methodologies. The duration of study time is between 1957 and 2020 after the junta’s direct powers have expired. Highway strategy for development has always been the magic item for improving people’s lives and political interests. The pretense of highway construction and maintenance also serves as a political justification for the highway department’s power centralization over local governments. The Thai people were still heavily active in the highway regime. It brought new settlements, births, and the extension of villages in both rural and urban areas. As a result, road development appears to take precedence over urban design. Despite the fact that the highway may not be as efficient as it appears in comparison to other modes of transportation, it is a part of the development fairy story. Thai people, on the other hand, lived by consuming personal vehicles due to a lack of public transportation. The increased number of vehicles on the road could raise the probability of an accident. Thailand’s road accidents cost a lot of lives and economics. Despite the fact that the road and highway are part of the resources, while are never included as variables.
