Guideline for Development of Student Morality and Ethics according to Perspective of Parents of Students Attending Private Charity Schools of Buddhist Temples in Bangkok

Abstract

This research paper, mixing both qualitative and quantitative methods, aims to study the guideline for the development of student morality and ethics according to perspective of parents of students who attend private charity schools of Buddhist temples in Bangkok. The morality and ethics are important for students to ensure they make progress for themselves and society.

The study found that the parental perspective on student morality and ethics was at a high level generally. With different ages and educational backgrounds, generally, these parents shared the same perspective on student morality and ethics. However, parents with different occupations had different perspective on student morality and ethics.

The author et al. suggests the moral and ethical development guideline for students by holding the temple private charity school group in Bangkok up as a model and guideline for developing the student morality and ethics as follows. Students should study how to 1) value honesty, 2) save money, 3) practice responsibility, 4) have polite behavior, 5) exercise discipline, 6) highly appreciate their supporters and 7) follow the religious teachings as a habit. Furthermore, the government sector should promote the student morality and ethics alongside local people, temples and schools to ensure students exercise discipline and ethics.
