Abstract

This research article aims to study the elderly’s needs of laws and welfare and guidelines of the elderly law structure in Lam Mai Municipality, Mueang District, Yala Province. The study adopted the qualitative and quantitative research methods with the questionnaire on social welfare needs replied by 198 informants.

The results showed that the existing elderly welfare in Lam Mai Municipality was the basic welfare according to the rights and welfare received by the elderly under the laws that promote and protect the rights of the elderly. However, since most elderly were unaware of due welfare, they need social welfare for various fields including health welfare, housing welfare and working and earning welfare. Therefore, a guideline is required for determining the structure of the elderly law for appropriate social welfare provision for the elderly to ensure they have a better quality of life.

The author suggests that Lam Mai Municipality, Mueang District, Yala Province should focus on providing the elderly’s appropriate and thorough basic welfares including providing onsite health services and giving advice on health care, surveying their living conditions and public utility system and developing work plans or projects for professional training to ensure the elderly are able to earn income and self-sufficient.
