This academic article aims to study legal problems obstructing the halal exports and analyze the solutions to overcome the legal problems obstructing the halal exports and ensure Thailand’s halal exports meet the international standards.
The study found that laws concerning the halal exports were under numerous regulatory agencies. In addition, the entrepreneurs had to follow the rules, regulations and standards of halal exports of destination countries. Halal food costs were higher than other export products. Regulatory agencies did not have the standardized principle for halal certification, lacked halal logistics certification and were short of protection of consumer’s rights in the case of non-standard halal products. These legal problems could affect the confidence of Muslim consumers. Thailand halal exports could fail to secure the international recognition.
Therefore, the government should amend the laws concerning the halal products export to reduce the entrepreneurs’ obstacles as well as establishing the halal standard by considering the supply chain and improving a concrete protection of the consumers’ rights. This approach may encourage Thailand to become a halal food exporter recognized by Muslim consumers internationally.
