Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative study was to examine the informational behavior of public librarians in enhancing the self-active aging of the elderly population in Kamphaeng Phet Province. There are three sub-research issues: (1) information needs; (2) information seeking; and (3) Information usage and challenges. Data were collected using in-depth interviews. The research tool was a semi-structured interview form. The selection of key informants used purposive sampling. Data analysis used content analysis and inductive analysis. The study found a total of 18 public librarians, most of whom were female and aged between 30 and 39 years, with bachelor's degrees. They reside in the province and have at least 11 years of experience in providing services to the elderly. The theoretical framework utilized in this study is the Information Behavior theory, which explores the comprehensive behaviors of information users. The results of the study revealed that (1) key informants require information to enhance their understanding of service provision, with access to information for the elderly being crucial. (2) In seeking information, key informants utilize various channels, including books, journals, websites, video clips, and digital platforms providing information about the elderly. They also consult the elderly themselves to design activities promoting learning and additional career development to better cater to their needs. (3) Key informants employ information in three main areas: providing information services for the elderly, organizing lifelong learning activities, and supporting additional careers for the elderly.
